Together, Tsavo East and Tsavo West form one of the largest national parks in the world, known for red elephants, diverse landscapes, and the legendary man-eating lions of Tsavo.
Tsavo is Kenya's oldest and largest national park, split into Tsavo East and Tsavo West by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. The park is famous for its red elephants, colored by the red dust they bathe in, and its diverse landscapes ranging from semi-arid scrubland to volcanic hills, rivers, and springs. This is also the home of the legendary man-eating lions of Tsavo, immortalized in movies and books.
